Massachusetts beachgoers banded together on Sunday to try and save a great white shark after it beached itself on Cape Cod.
Using children’s sandcastle buckets, the crowd continuously poured water over the stricken creature as it flopped around at White Crest Beach in Wellfleet.
They also dug out a channel in the sand to try and help the 11-foot-long shark to get back into the sea.
The WellFleet Police Department said it got a call about the shark at 8.10am – and officers contacted the Atlantic Great White Conservancy group.
Members from the group helped bring the shark back into the water, MassLive.com reported.
But it wasn’t enough to save the great white, which died later in the morning, according to CBS Boston.
Police said the shark already appeared sick or injured when it was discovered.
